City of Champions

A few years ago, Edmonton was rightfully proclaimed the City of Champions. This is true in many walks of life but none more so than sport. From the playgrounds to the schools, minor sport, amateur sport and professional sport become an integral part of Edmontonians lives.

In the mural named City of Champions, Tag Kim created a mosaic of achievements. The background is Edmontons skyline in front of which are three athletes representing minor sport, amateur sport and pro sport.

Mark Messier holding the Stanley Cup in 1990, worked his way through all levels of his sport in his home town

and was able to pursue and conquer the hockey dream without leaving home. Mark is flanked by University of Alberta Golden Bear Todd Goodwin representing on of the top achievements in amateur sport, the CIAU Championship, emblematic of hockey supremacy at the University level in Canada and Michael Roth who shows the spirit of achievement for which many a youngster plays daily in our minor sport system.

This mural is a salute to all the participants in Edmontons sport system and is dedicated to the City of Edmonton.
