There is a lot to consider before buying a baseball or softball glove. What position do you play? How often do you play? What skill level are you at? These are all important things to consider when searching for equipment of any kind. At United Cycle, we have different styles and models of gloves for every position and level.
- Catcher
- A fingerless mitt (it does not have individual fingers).
- Has heavy padding to reduce the sting from the pitcher's throw.
- Reinforced to withstand the heavy use throughout a game.
- First Base
- Fingerless pocket similar to a catchers mitt.
- Larger profile to help field throws in the dirt.
- Plastic reinforcements along the edge of the fingers to help is keep its shape and for strength.
- Infield
- A five-fingered glove with a shallow pocket.
- A youth size is between 9 - 11 inches.
- Adults 10 1/2 to 11 3/4 inch is the typical baseball size.
- Softball infielder gloves have a deeper pocket to accept the bigger ball; typically 12"-13".
- Outfield
- Baseball outfielders will typically wear either a 12.5” or a 12.75” glove.
- Softball outfielders will use 13-14” gloves.
- The longer glove allows for greater reach while tracking down fly balls.
