Did you know that you should always bring your skates and pants with you when fitting goal pads? It's the only way to ensure you get the best overall fit. For younger goaltenders, the centre of your knee should fit on the bottom knee roll of the pad to allow room for growth (about 2"). If you are finished growing, your knee should fit just below the middle knee roll to allow for pad shrinkage.

Sounds easy, but the trick is each manufacturer uses a different measurement scale. Therefore you may fit a different size depending on the brand. Be sure to try on a few different brands and models of pads to find the best fit for your style.

Goal Pad Fitting Guide
The key factor here is the overall length, which can be divided into three sections.

  1. The boot: determined by the goalies skate size.
  2. Instep to knee: determines the shin length.
  3. Knee to top or thigh rise: a personal measurement depending on how much pant and pad overlap the goaltender prefers. A general rule is 7" to 8".
