Arm & Chest Combo Fitting Guide
The key fitting criteria includes chest, shoulders, arms, and elbows.
- The most important consideration for the chest pad is length. In general, the bottom of the chest pad should meet or slightly overlap the top of the protective cup when the goaltender is in the crouched position.
- The chest pad can be tucked into the pant or it can rest out of the pant depending on the goalie’s preference.
- The shoulder area of the body pad is one of the key protection areas. The shoulders should fit directly under the large caps of the pad.
- The arms should go into the cuff of the gloves no more than 1 1/2”. More than this will cause binding and restrict movement.
- The goalies elbow is the third important area that should be addressed. The elbow should be centred in the elbow cap to provide maximum protection and to prevent shifting of the pad on the arm.
- Most chest and arm pads now feature straps at all the critical adjustment points as well as a full body harness to achieve a true custom fit.
