Like with many contact sports, helmets are an essential and required piece of equipment. Although many lacrosse players use hockey CSA approved helmets and cages, there are Lacrosse specific CLA approved helmets and cages.
- Lacrosse helmets incorporate a 4-point buckling system to assure they stay on and to allow for a better fit.
- They are made of hard plastic with a wire mesh cage, or face mask, to protect the front of the face. The facemask must have a center bar running from the top to the bottom for better protection.
- Goalie helmets add a throat protector.
- Although CSA approved helmets and cages are most common, CLA cages have bigger spaces for improved vision, and they properly fit hockey helmets.
