Mouthguards
Mouthguards are important for many reasons. They are mandatory in lacrosse for good reasons.
Mouthguards increase space between TMJ joint, so energy cannot be transferred. It helps to absorb some of the shock from impacts and protects the head and teeth. It can soften blows to the head and also help reduce the chance of concussions.
United Cycle has a variety of mouthguards to choose from and all are easy to heat and mould to your mouth. They come in general sizes to fit youths and adults, and some have a strap that will attach the guard to your cage.
Lacrosse Pads / Protective Gear
There are a number of pads that need to be worn during a lacrosse game and United Cycle has all of them. Come in to United Cycle and try on some equipment to see what feels right for you. Plenty of United Cycle staff will be on hand to answer any of your questions.
Rib and Back Pads
Rib and back pads will protect the vulnerable spine and ribs.
Shoulder Pads
These fit smaller than ice hockey padding because there is no shoulder checking in lacrosse. Also, the shoulder caps separate from the chest pad to allow for the arms to move up
Sizing is similar to hockey.
The AC joint on your shoulder is the marker. Ideally, the cap should be centred directly over the AC joint. If that is the case, the chest and arms will fall into place. Different manufacturers can use different sizing methods.
Slashguards
Slashguards are required equipment in most leagues. They cover the elbow as well as the upper and forearm. Most are adjustable and are secured with hook-and-loop straps, so sizing is general in terms of body size. There are two types of arm protection: full plastic and pull on.
Full plastic comes in three pieces that tie on to each other whereas pull-ons will need an extra bicep guard. Remember to not leave any exposed skin between the shoulder pad and glove. Different manufacturers can use different sizing methods.
