Back in the day, player’s positions used to be denoted by the colour of their stick. Defence used red sticks, forwards used blue, and the centres’ sticks were white. For better or worse, it’s not like that today.

The maximum length of the stick depends on the height of the player. While the player is standing on skates with the arm extended out from the body, the maximum length of the stick is the distance from the ice to the height of the underarm.
